Recent Projects

Aevitas in Alberta has a highly trained environmental services team that has helped a wide range of companies operating across diverse industries to complete complex projects within budget and on-time. Some of the waste management projects that our company has been involved in over the past few years include:

Transformer Removal and Replacement

Transformer Removal and Replacement

Aevitas Inc. has the right equipment and personnel to drain, remove and treat used transformer oil. Note in the picture the temporary secondary containment set-up by us to capture any spills and contain 125,942 litres of used transformer oil in the event of a release. After installation we provided vacuum filling on seven 50MVA single phase CG Power Systems transformers.

Transport and Disposal of PCB Bushings

Our company provided custom hazardous waste containers to safely transport PCB electrical bushings for disposal at our Kirkland Lake, Ontario hazardous waste management facility. These bushings measured over 38 feet in length and were completely contained in the pictured 40 foot long unique shipping container. Our client was so pleased with our ability to exceed their expectations that they have since hired us to perform many other similar services for their organization.

Mercury Arch Valve Decommissioning Project

Mercury Arch Valve Decommissioning Project

Aevitas Inc. engineered and fabricated custom hazardous waste containers to safely transport 37 mercury arch valve components being decommissioned for hazardous waste disposal. Having the only commercial mercury retort oven in Canada, we were able to effectively recover the mercury contamination from the parts and recycle the metals. As such, we recycled over 400,000 kilograms of decontaminated metal and recovered 1,800 kilograms of elemental mercury.

Transformer Oil Change:  Oil Craned In and Out

Aevitas Inc. provided hazardous waste disposal equipment and personnel to drain and remove 25,000 litres of used transformer oil. This job was unique in that the oil had to be craned in totes across the dam and water. In the image, note the secondary containment set-up around the tanker truck to prevent a hazardous waste release into the environment.

Transformer Removal and Replacement

Our company provided hazardous waste removal equipment and personnel to drain and dispose of 93,000 litres of used transformer oil. Three obsolete transformers were transported and recycled at our Kirkland Lake, Ontario facility. Our on-site services vacuum filled 25,000 litres of transformer oil into the replacement units. In the photo, notice the water rushing from the hydroelectric dam in front of the truck, and the temporary secondary containment around the work area in the bottom right.

Waterside Projects

At Aevitas Inc. we have been instrumental in developing and implementing many waterside on-site transformer services throughout the province. These projects involve draining, removing and treating used transformer oil, vacuum filling transformers with new oil, degasifying and topping up transformer oil, and transporting and recycling obsolete transformers, and providing replacement units.
